IPTV channels and streams are available in multiple quality levels: SD, HD, FHD and 4K. Understanding what each means helps you configure your player correctly and set realistic expectations for what you will see on screen.
SD (Standard Definition) — 480p
SD quality is 480 lines of vertical resolution (720 × 480 pixels for NTSC, 720 × 576 for PAL/UK). This is the quality of traditional analogue television and early digital channels. On a large modern TV, SD looks noticeably soft and pixelated. Most IPTV subscriptions offer HD alternatives for almost all channels — SD streams are typically legacy or fallback options.
HD (High Definition) — 720p
720p HD is 1280 × 720 pixels. This is the minimum quality tier for modern IPTV channels and represents a significant improvement over SD. On screens up to 40 inches, 720p looks clean and sharp. It requires approximately 10–15 Mbps for stable streaming.
FHD (Full HD) — 1080p
1080p is 1920 × 1080 pixels — the standard broadcast resolution for UK HD television (BBC HD, Sky HD, etc.). Most live TV channels in a quality IPTV subscription stream at 1080i (interlaced) or 1080p (progressive). On screens up to 65 inches at normal sitting distance, 1080p is visually indistinguishable from 4K. Requires 15–25 Mbps for stable streaming.
4K / UHD — 2160p
4K is 3840 × 2160 pixels, four times the resolution of 1080p. The difference is visible on large screens (55 inches and above) at close viewing distances. In IPTV, 4K streams require 25–50 Mbps and a 4K-capable device. See our 4K IPTV guide.

How to select quality in your IPTV player
In IPTV Smarters and TiviMate, the player automatically selects the quality of the stream URL associated with each channel. Some channels offer multiple quality variants — look for an alternative stream option (a switch icon or long-press on the channel) if you want to select a different tier.
