Watching IPTV on a Mac is straightforward using compatible player applications. macOS does not restrict app installation in the same way mobile devices do, giving you more player options.
Compatible Mac IPTV players
- IPTV Smarters — available for macOS via the Mac App Store or direct download
- Infuse — primarily a media player but supports M3U playlists well
- VLC media player — free, open-source, can open M3U playlists directly
- IINA — modern, macOS-native media player supporting M3U
Setup using IPTV Smarters on Mac
- Download IPTV Smarters for macOS from the Mac App Store
- Open the app and select Add User
- Choose Login with Xtream Codes API
- Enter your server URL, username and password from your IPTV UK Hub welcome email
- Your channels and EPG will load automatically
Setup using VLC
- Download VLC from videolan.org
- Open VLC and go to File > Open Network
- Paste your M3U URL from your IPTV UK Hub welcome email
- Click Open — VLC will play the first channel in your list
VLC can handle the playlist but does not provide an EPG interface. For a better viewing experience with programme guide, IPTV Smarters or Infuse is recommended.
Performance on Mac
Modern Macs (Apple Silicon M1/M2/M3 or Intel) handle HD and 4K IPTV streams without difficulty. Connect via Ethernet if your Mac has an Ethernet port, or use a USB-C Ethernet adapter for more stable streaming than Wi-Fi.
Using AirPlay with IPTV
If you are streaming on a Mac and want to display the content on an Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible TV, some IPTV players support AirPlay output. Check the player's settings for this option.
