IPTV Comparison

IPTV vs Netflix, Disney+ and Streaming Services

Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video and similar services are often called "streaming" — but they are quite different from IPTV. Understanding the distinction helps you decide which services are worth subscribing to and whether they can replace each other.

What VOD streaming services offer

Netflix, Disney+ and similar platforms are primarily video-on-demand (VOD) services. They offer a curated library of films and TV series, usually with no live TV. Content is produced or licensed by the platform and available to stream whenever you choose. They do not provide live news, live sport, or a traditional TV programme guide.

What IPTV adds

An IPTV service provides everything a traditional TV service offers — live channels with a programme schedule, a full EPG, Catch Up TV — plus a VOD library of films and series. With IPTV UK Hub, your subscription includes 28,000+ live channels and 170,000+ on-demand titles.

This means a single IPTV subscription can replace:

  • Your satellite or cable TV subscription (for live channels)
  • Separate VOD subscriptions (for films and series)

Content exclusivity

Netflix and Disney+ have exclusive original productions — series and films made specifically for their platforms. These will not appear on an IPTV service. If you specifically want Netflix Originals or Disney+ exclusive content, those subscriptions remain relevant.

Cost

Netflix costs £4.99–17.99/month depending on plan. Disney+ is £4.99–11.99/month. Amazon Prime Video is included with Prime at £8.99/month. Combined, a viewer subscribing to all three pays £18–38+/month.

IPTV UK Hub provides live channels, sports and a large VOD library from £5/month (on the 12-month plan). For many UK viewers, an IPTV subscription plus selective use of one or two VOD platforms represents better value than multiple streaming subscriptions plus a separate satellite or cable contract.

Live sport

None of the major VOD platforms provide comprehensive live sport. IPTV services include dedicated sports channels with live coverage of football, rugby, boxing, tennis, motorsport and more. For sports viewers, IPTV is the more practical choice.

In summary

IPTV and VOD streaming services are complementary rather than directly competing. IPTV replaces traditional TV; VOD streaming services provide curated exclusive content. The choice is whether exclusive platform content justifies the additional subscription cost alongside an IPTV plan.
